My WHY?

This is Why I do What I do

A Message from Perminder Thind

Before I found my passion for billboards, I spent 15 years in IT and 18 years in hospitality—both tough industries. But everything changed in 2019 when a national billboard company approached me with an offer to put a billboard on my property. When we couldn’t finalize a deal, my curiosity led me to explore how to put up a billboard myself.
Six months later, I had a billboard on my land—but no customer. So, I decided to advertise my own restaurant. The results were astonishing: our restaurant sales jumped by 30% (technically 29.6%, a number I triple-checked). That’s when the penny dropped: billboards work.

Why Billboards Work

Billboards are one of the oldest forms of advertising, dating back to ancient Egypt when public notices were etched in stone. Fast forward to 1835, Jared Bell created the first modern billboard in New York for Barnum & Bailey Circus. Despite advances in technology, the power of billboards has stood the test of time. Why? Because you can’t skip, pause, or block them. Billboards command attention. They’re always visible, and their messages are subliminally absorbed as you drive past, ready to be recalled when needed.

Attention Generates Leads

Businesses—big or small—need attention to thrive. Even the largest brands like Coca-Cola continue to advertise to remain at the forefront of consumers’ minds. Billboards help you do just that. They make your business unforgettable, ensuring customers think of you first when they need your product or service.

Let me share a story: One of our billboards is located on a property owned by a landlord who occasionally dines at our restaurant. One day, after we updated that billboard with our restaurant’s advertisement, he came in with his family for dinner. He hadn’t visited in over six months, but that fresh reminder brought our business back to the forefront of his mind. That’s the power of billboard advertising—it keeps your business top of mind, ensuring customers think of you first when they need your product or service.

Does your business come to mind when someone thinks of your category? If they recall two or three competitors before you, you’re less likely to get their business. That’s why attention is key. The Numbers Speak for Themselves
• In the last decade, Australia’s population grew by 20.4%, but outdoor advertising (OOH) audiences grew by 31%.
• OOH advertising saw a 27.2% growth last year.
• 93% of Australians see outdoor advertising every single day.

Billboard advertising isn’t just effective—it’s essential.

My Journey with Big Sign Company

After the success of my first billboard, I knew I was onto something. I left the hospitality industry and founded Big Sign Company, a boutique billboard business focused on helping businesses grow. We now manage nine premium billboard faces on major roads and are growing. We specialize in static billboards (not digital) because they’re timeless, impactful, and proven to work.

What Makes Us Different

At Big Sign Company, we’re selective about the businesses we work with. If I don’t believe a billboard will benefit your business, I won’t take your money. My goal is simple: to help you grow. That’s why our billboards are consistently booked months in advance.

If you’re ready to take your business to the next level and stay front of mind with your customers, let’s talk. We’ll explore whether billboard advertising is right for you.

This is why I do what I do—because it worked for me, and I know it can work for you.
